According to an annual survey conducted by Edelman Trust Barometer, it proved that Google has become the most trusted source of news for adults around the globe. Just a year ago Google was second to traditional media, and has exerted its dominance to become the number one source for news.
Google has become the most trusted news source greatly because Millennials want their news on the go, and they want it fast. While traditional news sources are still outstanding, as the Millennials become adults, these numbers will continue to escalate.
The survey by Edelman Trust Barometer has been conducted for the last 15 years, and surveyed 27,000 adults from various countries around the world. The survey included a number of questions with different topics, one of which included the most trusted news source. The results of the survey would prove that 30 percent of people first conduct an online search for the news, 26 percent of people check the newspaper, and 21 percent of people still watch the news on TV.
Other popular websites sites such as Facebook remain significantly behind Google and traditional media as a trusted source, and engage nearly 48 percent of people looking for the news. On the other hand, 72 percent of people trust information posted by a friend or a family member, with the most popular social media news source being Facebook.
As Google continues to build and strengthen its brand around the world, it is clearly reflected in these rankings. We may also see Google take over several other markets in the near future, including the auto industry with its driver-less car, which will take passengers to their exact specified location using Google Maps.
